How to Cure Allergies

allergies

Allergies are one of the most common ailments among those in the United States today. Pharmacy shelves are stocked full of products that offer temporary relief from this annoying illness. Often overlooked and even considered quackery in many circles, natural food and remedy stores offer alternatives to the harsh medicines and have fewer side effects. Given all the choices available, with a little research you might find a product to cure allergies or at least quell them enough to live a nearly normal life.

Steps

Medical Cures

  • Realize that there really is no medical cure for allergies, but there are a lot of products that help alleviate the symptoms. Some of these products, when used regularly, will help prevent the patient from having another allergy attack.
  • Find the Over-The-Counter section of your favorite grocery store and you will quickly become overwhelmed with your choices. The big two are antihistamines and decongestants. Stronger medicines with prescriptions would be combination drugs and corticosteroids.
  • Consider as a last resort, bronchodilators. These are very serious and potent drugs. They are available only with a prescription.

Natural Cures

  • Consider your environment. Many people overlook some main causes or irritants in their environment that if addressed would greatly help alleviate their symptoms. A little proactive effort such as removing mold, moving out of moist environments, cleaning carpets and bedding and avoiding certain foods will go a long way in making life more enjoyable without the use of drugs.
  • Take a daily dose of garlic and onions. Not only do these items help allergies, garlic helps lower blood cholesterol. These two gems have anti-inflammatory properties that help keep airways and swelling in check.
  • Ingest some horseradish daily to clear up your sinuses. You can then drop to a once a month dosage to prevent allergies from returning.
  • Make it a point to grab the feverfew instead of the ibuprofen the next time allergies cause you to have a migraine.
  • Eat some Gingko to take care of just about everything. Gingko contains several chemicals that can help to decrease the trigger response of inflammation, asthma and allergies

Warnings

  • Before taking any medication or natural alternative, check with your doctor to see if it is right and safe for you. Many people do not consider a natural remedy as a threat because it is natural; however, even natural substances can cause reactions in your body, and can also cause interactions with any other medications that you may be taking. Of particular concern would be natural remedies that cause a great increase in the potency of any other medications that you might be on.
  • Pregnant women and nursing women should not take feverfew; they most definitely should consult with their physician before taking anything, medicinal or natural.
